ADVISORY BOARD
The Immigrant Welcome and Resource Center Advisory Board is a group of community partners and
ambassadors who believe in the mission of the Center, connect the Center to local organizations, businesses,
and service providers to support Center programs, advocate for immigrants’ needs in their sphere of influence,
and collaborate with other community members to address enduring problems immigrants face and capitalize
on new opportunities to address them. Below are some basic facts about this important component of the
IWRC.
What are expectations for Advisory Board members?
Advisory Board members are expected to:
● Remain knowledgeable about the Center’s mission, services, and programs
● Communicate and advocate for our immigrant community and the Center’s mission
● Support and volunteer in Center programs and activities
● Connect the Center with relevant local projects and initiatives
● Develop collaborative opportunities to leverage immigrant assets (education, professional experience,
work ethic, etc.) and address needs
The Advisory Board is not responsible for organizational fiduciary or governance aspects of the Immigrant
Welcome and Resource Center.
How is the Advisory Board structured?
The Advisory Board includes committees focused on key areas of support for immigrants (such as education,
housing, healthcare, interpretation/translation, etc.). Each committee has dedicated members who can help
support related Center programs, go deeper into discussing issues, problems, barriers and potential solutions
and opportunities to improve quality of life for immigrants in their focus area. They also identify and work
collaboratively on projects to address issues and leverage opportunities for greater support.
What time commitment do you envision for being part of the group?
This will vary depending on each individual board member and his/her chosen level of involvement. There will
be whole group meetings gathering the entire Advisory Board (at this time, 1.5-hour quarterly meetings are
proposed). Individual working groups will also identify potential issues and projects to tackle and related
meeting schedules to get projects completed.
How can I join the Advisory Board?
We are recruiting Advisory Board members who believe in the mission of the Center, are willing to support its
programs, and serve alongside the local immigrant community. Membership is based on recommendations
from current Advisory Board members to Advisory Board Co-Chairs and approval by the IWRC Board of
Directors.
